Campfire was a one-day design-build project for a party kicking off the start of summer at Fairbank Lake in Northern Ontario. The chosen site was the location of the communal fire ring which became the seed of the project’s central metaphor. Inspired by dancing flames and the glow of orange-tinted smoke we constructed a simple box frame with reclaimed dimensional lumber. The studs were then charred with a flamethrower and tyvek vapour barrier was used to enclose the space, leaving the ceiling open to the sky above. As the sun set and the sky turned from blue to black the party lit up the room and smoke began to whisper into the cool summer air.
